Cup Results 2010/11
No Name Trophy 2011
played at Penrith, 2 July 2011.
The first playing of this fixture, which we hope to make an annual event since there’s now a trophy for it thanks to Tony Baker, was a very close affair. Penrith drew first blood with young Miles Davis scoring for his club on his debut. Carlisle then took the lead as Chris Royle, Jason Maxwell and Drew Millar won their games. Penrith then fought back and when Robert Patla won on board 1 the score was tied at 5-5. No pressure then on the two playing the final game. Kevin was ahead in material but very close to running out of time so when Bill offered a draw it must have been tempting. However he refused and rattled out a series of movies which ended with a pawn promoting and Bill being a very polite person resigned at that point. Well done Penrith!

This was a most unexpected outcome to what is usually a very tight match. In each of the last two years it has come down to the result on the last match and usually the home team wins. It is common politeness after all. Whatever the cause, the Carlisle/Austin Friars team are not going to complain, especially about the excellent refreshments.
