Chess on the Radio

January 5, 2014

An article in the Daily Telegraph on Wednesday refers to the return of chess to Radio 4 for the first time since 1964 in a programme featuring politicians and celebrities being interviewed during a game. It starts on December 30th and runs for five days. The programme is called “Across The Board”. It features games between presenter Dominic Lawson and, amongst others, Rachel Reeves, the shadow cabinet minister and Lennox Lewis, the former heavyweight boxer, speaking about their love of chess and their lives and careers. Gwyneth Williams, BBC Radio 4 controller, said “Chess is much more than a game – it provides a different perspective on the way we live.”
